Out Of Hours

Our normal surgery opening hours are 8.00am to 6.30pm on week days but we close at 12.00pm (noon) on the third Thursday of every month for training.

If you require urgent medical assistance which cannot wait until the surgery re-opens please call 111. Calls to NHS 111 from both landlines & mobiles are free.

If you have a life-threatening medical emergency please dial 999.

Emergencies

If you are confronted by a serious problem such as severe chest pain or profuse bleeding, call an ambulance (tel: 999) straight away.

Ambulance Booking

Please try to arrange for a relative or friend to take you to hospital appointments wherever possible. Remember that ambulances are not taxis! If you need an ambulance because of your medical condition, please telephone 0844 811 1020. This is your local patient Assessment Booking and Choice Service and your transport can be arranged through them.

Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC)

An Urgent Care Centre (also known as an Urgent Treatment Centre or UTC) is designed to provide medical help for conditions that require prompt attention but are not life-threatening emergencies.

What It's For

Urgent Care Centres are ideal for treating:

  • Minor injuries (sprains, cuts, minor fractures)
  • Minor illnesses (infections, rashes, high temperature)
  • Urgent but non-emergency conditions that can't wait for a GP appointment

They are open at least 12 hours a day, 7 days a week, and you can either walk in or book an appointment via NHS 111

Local Context

At Simmondley Medical Practice, patients are advised to visit the Tameside Hospital Urgent Treatment Centre or New Mills Walk-in Centre for urgent matters when the surgery is closed or there are no appropriate appointments available.

These centres help reduce pressure on A&E departments by handling cases that don’t require emergency hospital care.
